3 Tips for Maintaining Kid's Oral Hygiene

Parents need to take care of their children’s dental hygiene and set healthy habits from the start. Healthy teeth are essential for developing a child's growth, and they also set a precedent for good dental habits as the child grows. On the other hand, a lack of oral hygiene can lead to various infections and teeth decay.

For this reason and more, it’s vital to maintain good oral hygiene from an early age. However, this can be a little tricky to manage sometimes as there are so many tips and tricks out there, which may not suit everyone’s needs.

Here are some of the tips that are easy to adopt.

Make Sure To Brush Daily

It is essential to keep your mouth clean by brushing daily. It’s the most critical step toward oral hygiene and the easiest one. A child needs to brush correctly and regularly at least twice a day.

They should brush with upwards and downwards motions, back and forth for at least two minutes. Additionally, children should brush their tongues to eliminate bacteria present there. Brushes often come with a separate bristle to clean the tongue at the back.

Most children start to brush their teeth independently by 6-8 years. However, children younger than that might need assistance. It is essential to use a brush with soft bristles that don't aggravate the child's gums and teeth.

Replace The Toothbrush

Changing the toothbrush after three months is recommended, especially when the bristles start to bend. Using a toothbrush after its expiration date can lead to bacterial infections from whatever is growing on the toothbrush.

Additionally, frayed bristles are not effective for cleaning the mouth, leaving room for bacteria and other diseases. If the situation gets out of hand, your child may need to go for dental treatment.

Get Flouride Treatments

Flouride can strengthen the outer enamel of the tooth. It helps prevent tooth decay and cavities in the mouth. Your kid can receive a fluoride treatment once or twice a year, based on their needs.
