The Dos and Don’ts for a Perfect Smile

Having a perfect smile is something everyone desires. A beautiful smile helps one feel confident and comfortable. A beautiful is also a sign of healthy and well-maintained teeth, which indicate good general health.

However, having a beautiful smile isn’t simple and requires discipline, self-restraint, and care. In fact, if you want a gorgeous smile, you’ll often have to change long-standing habits. Here are a few dos and don'ts on how to achieve your best smile:

Don't: Eat Excessive Amount of Carbohydrates.

It's a well-known fact that candy causes cavities; however, what people may not know is the carbohydrates can be even worse. Carbohydrates like rice, pasta, or bread are significant culprits for bacteria growth. Bacteria tend to consume sugar and turn that into acid, and that can turn into cavities.

Eventually, carbohydrates left into the mouth can lead to plaque accumulation, which subsequently results in tooth decay. Plaque accumulation is also a significant risk factor in chronic gum diseases, affecting the appearance of your teeth.

Do: Relax and Meditate

One of the worst things you can do for your teeth is clench and grind your teeth consistently. Although this is a habit many people might not notice, dentists report that it’s widespread.

Clenching and grinding your teeth can cause chips and cracks in your teeth that can adversely affect your teeth's appearance. Furthermore, in the long-term, they could make your teeth weaker and more susceptible to sensitive teeth. Sensitive teeth make eating or drinking hot foods or drinks incredibly painful and uncomfortable.

Do: Straighten Your Teeth

Often the factors harming the teeth most are out of your control. This includes problems like crowded or crooked teeth, incorrect jaw positions, or overbites and underbites. The best thing to do in this scenario is to have your teeth properly straightened.

There are two main ways to do this: braces and Invisalign. Braces are usually metal or ceramic wires that are attached to your teeth to align them. These wires are permanently fixed in your teeth for two years, during which they will be highly prominent.

Invisalign offers the same function. However, in this case, the aligner is removable (for when you eat and drink) and completely undetectable. Since it’s not permanently fixed, wearing Invisalign requires a lot of discipline.
