The Need for Dental Bonding

How It Works
Your dentist will first select a color for the resin that matches the natural color of your teeth. Next, they will roughen the affected tooth’s surface by abrading it. They will then apply a conditioning liquid on the tooth’s surface to aid with the proper adhesion of the bonding material.
After preparing the tooth, your dentist will spread the resin on top of the tooth’s surface—molding and smoothing it until the desired shape is achieved. With the help of a laser or ultraviolet light, the resin is then hardened, after which it’s shaped and trimmed further. Following this, your dentist will then smoothen out the resin and polish it.
Depending on the number of teeth that require bonding, the procedure can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
Dental Bonding Aftercare
· After your dental bonding procedure, avoid consuming tea, coffee or smoking cigarettes, as these substances can stain the resin.
· Keep good oral practices, such as brushing your teeth twice daily and flossing regularly.
· Avoid biting your fingernails or other hard objects as it can chip the bonding material.
· Visit your dentist regularly for routine cleaning and check-ups.
Your dental bonding can last for several years before it needs replacement. However, the longevity of the bonding depends on the quality of the procedure and maintaining good oral hygiene.
